The COVID-19 pandemic is getting worse with each passing day, and the need for immediate and easy availability of the vaccine is more needed than ever. Therefore, Google Maps has now made locations for the COVID-19 vaccine available on the Maps. Therefore, anyone using Maps or Google Search can look up available sites for the vaccine.
Chief Health Officer of Google Health, Karen DeSalvo, mentions in an official blog post how there is a need to inform people of the locations where they can get the vaccine. She further explains how it may be hard for people to find vaccines based on their location, the distance from the vaccine location, and even the reliability of their internet connection.
However, with the new feature available on Google Maps and Search, locating vaccines will be easier and more efficient. Successful testing has already been conducted on Google Maps. As for Google Search, the interface is different from Google Maps. Thus, the search results will show all sorts of related and relevant information to the vaccine. However, on the left, an option stating ‘Where To Get It’ will show you all the nearby vaccine centers.
Google Search also feeds additional information on the vaccine, such as the drive details to the nearest vaccine center, the number of people in India who have taken the vaccine so far, the number of doses given out, and what percentage of the population has been immunized.
