With the world coming to a halt once again with the Coronavirus pandemic still at pace, international travel seems like a distant dream. India is one of the worst-hit nations both economically and healthwise. However, Google has come up with a new idea to make virtual travel easier for people around the world.
In collaboration with UNESCO, on World Heritage Day, Google Arts and Culture has added a new online resource- Explore UNESCO World Heritage. UNESCO assistant director-general Ernesto Ottone says, ‘‘This is a unique opportunity to enjoy a virtual globetrotting tour of cultural landmarks and outstanding places of natural beauty, as well as access accurate, reliable information on sites of outstanding universal value.’’
Google has created a microsite for 10 UNESCO heritage sites to give the users a virtual tour of the places in the midst of this chaos. The sites include the Taj mahal, Yosemite national park, Serengeti national park, The Colosseum, etc. You can now witness the grandeur of the Taj Mahal from the comfort of your sofa. You can get the virtual tour here
Although the pause to global tourism is here for a while, Google aims to replicate the feeling for its users from the safety of their homes.
