Why Samsung Phone Lags and Hangs So Much?
Samsung smartphones are pretty hardy devices and worth their prices, which is why if you hear Samsung phones lagging, it is usually because of storage issues.
Smartphones come with storage spaces in-built within them while giving you the option of adding external spaces via SD cards. This space you may use as per your wishes.
However, a small amount of this space is used by the device itself to operate smoothly. This is their ‘thinking storage’.
Therefore, when you use up this storage with photos, videos, songs, and other files such as apps, and games, the operations of the device also slow down. Mostly if you use up over 90% of the in-built storage, that is when you might start facing some real problems.
However, another case scenario should also be considered if storage is not the actual problem. At times, there might be hardware issues or even viruses that may have caused the lagging.
How To Fix Samsung Galaxy Phones Lagging Issue?
Now that we know of the factors that might be causing the problem, we will now go forward and discuss a few solutions. Mentioned below are a few of those solutions:
Safe mode
The first thing to do is to understand whether it is a software or storage problem, or if the problem lies with the hardware. For that, getting your device in the Safe mode is a convenient option.
What happens in the Safe mode is that your device is made to stop the operations of all third-party applications. This implies that your device will do all the essential functions like receiving and connecting calls, sending text messages, as well as connecting to the internet.
However, all the third-party apps will be refrained from running. This way, we will be able to understand where the problem lies.
If it is a software problem, you will be able to eradicate the particular app causing the problem. If the problem persists, then that would imply a hardware issue.
To get your device in the Safe mode, follow the steps mentioned below:
- Switch off your device by pressing and holding the ‘Power’ button
- Once the device is shut down, press and hold the ‘Volume Down’ button and the ‘Power’ button all at the same time
- This time, when the device is turned on, you will be able to see the ‘Safe mode’ option in the bottom portion of the screen. This mode will also show you which apps will not be able to operate in this mode.
Sorting through apps
If the problem of lagging does not persist in the Safe Mode, we will get the idea that it is indeed a third-party app that is causing the delay.
In that case, we will take the initiative to get rid of any app that might be taking up extra space or the ones that are of malicious nature.
To that, we would follow the guidelines as outlined below:
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Depending on the model, navigate to the ‘Application Manager’ or ‘Apps’ option
- Go through the list of the apps that you have installed. Keep a lookout for applications that you do not use anymore, or do not recognize or remember downloading, and also the ones that you had downloaded around the same time your device started lagging
- If you have located any such apps, you may now uninstall them. Go to the ‘Info’ option after selecting that app. There, you will find the ‘Uninstall’ option, which you may choose.
However, if the app does not have the uninstall option, then it is an app required by the operating system and thus is safe to keep. Such apps require very little space and are unlikely to be the cause of any lagging issue.
Once you have cleared the memory, then that should do the trick. Your device should now be operating smoothly.
Factory reset
If you are still encountering the obstacle, then the safest bet is to do a factory reset. This will set your device into its initial state, that is when you first bought it.
This implies that the operating system will delete all sorts of personal data and personalization that was made in the device after you purchased it.
However, because the device will be deleting all personal data, this would also include all your photos, videos, and documents.
Therefore, before you opt for this option, make sure you have made a backup of your device. Once you have made the backup, follow the steps mentioned below:
- Go to ‘Settings’
- You find the ‘Search’ option in the top-right corner of the screen
- Search ‘Reset’
Depending on your model and device version, you may find the option that you are looking for under:
- Back-Up And Reset > Factory Data Reset
- Reset > Factory Data Reset
- Once you have selected the ‘Factory Data Reset’ option, follow the instructions that will be prompted to you from then on
Once you have followed all the directions, your device will be set to a reset. With that, you will have your device set back to its original state. And with that, hopefully, the lagging problem should be solved too.
If for some reason, the problem persists, it is likely that there might, after all, be a hardware issue. In that case, we advise you to pay a visit to your nearest Samsung showroom.
