WhatsApp allows you to view and post photos, videos, and plain texts as status easily and securely. You can also choose to show your status to selected contacts in your list and hide it from others.
However, sometimes you don’t want others to get an indication that you viewed their story. There are different steps for Android and iPhone users to hide their views on others’ status.

Turn off read receipts
It is an official way that Android and iPhone users can use to hide their contact status views.
- Open WhatsApp on your Android or iPhone
- Click on Settings then Account and go to the Privacy option
- Turn off the read receipts
- Now go to contacts and view others status
If you don’t want to keep the read receipt turned off permanently, view the status and dont turn on your read receipts before the status expires.
View status on Android without them knowing
METHOD 1 – Access media from .Statuses Folder:
Pre downloaded photos of Status are available in the .Statuses directory.
- Open the WhatsApp folder and go to the status section. It permits WhatsApp to download some of the statuses of your contacts.
- Now you have to install a file manager app on your smartphone. You can use any app like ES file explorer.
- Turn on the hidden files option.
- Now navigate to the Internal Storage then go to WhatsApp >> Media.
- Click on the .Statuses option and copy the file to a different location.
You can now access the status photos through the file manager app without notifying your contacts.
METHOD 2 – Switch to offline mode:
by being offline, you can view your contacts’ status, and they will not get notified.
- Open WhatsApp in incognito mode on your browser
- Now the shared status will be visible on the Status screen.
- Disconnect with your Wifi or mobile data
- Open the status of any contact in the offline mode.
- After viewing the status, close the browser.
- Now you can reconnect your device to the internet.
METHOD 3 – View status using GBWhatsApp app:
- To download the GBWhatsApp app on an Android phone, you have to look for the APK file.
- Download the GBWhatsApp APK and install the app by following the steps.
- You will see two different versions of WhatsApp on your device. Use a file managers app to access the internal storage and copy the database.
- Navigate the directory of the GBWhatsApp app and paste the database of the original WhatsApp.
- Launch the GBWhatsApp and follow the steps, and the app will detect a backup in your Android phone. Now you can quickly restore the data.
- After the setup is complete, you have a chat screen in front of you. Click on the top right corner menu option and go to Privacy, then select Hide.
View status on iPhone without them knowing
METHOD 1 – Use WhatsApp++:
It is a tweaked version with features that are not available in the original one. This app is not available on the APP store, so you have to use a third party to install it.
- Download the WhatsApp++ on your iPhone and sign in with your phone number.
- Go to WhatsApp++ settings to turn off the ‘Stealth Mode.’
- Now choose the option WA stories settings and turn on the “ Manually mark stories as seen.”
- Go to the status screen of WhatsApp++ to view photos and videos of your contacts.
METHOD 2 – Use offline mode:
One can turn on airplane mode and store then view status on WhatsApp, but this app stores the status view locally. So, once you come online, the status indicator will reach your contacts.
- To avoid this, you can switch to airplane mode to see the status but before coming online, delete WhatsApp on your phone. After coming online, you can reinstall the app.
- Open WhatsApp Web on your browser in Incognito mode
- Visit the status screen and scroll through the status updates.
- Switch off the internet connection and click on the status you wish to view
- After viewing the status, close the browser before reconnecting to the internet.
One more way is to take a screenshot of the status screen so you can easily decipher texts on the status by just zooming in. Choose any of the above methods to view the status without notifying the contact.
