Instagram has constantly been making efforts to combat abusive content on the platform. Recently, the Facebook-owned company has introduced two new features to minimize hate speech. Here is a brief description of the two updates.
Customized DM

This feature introduces an automatic filter to which your DM requests can be activated to discard all offensive messages. It allows the user to create a customized list of derogatory words, hashtags, phrases, or emojis. Any message received that contains words from the customized list will be directed to a hidden request folder. That folder will have the messages covered so that the user doesn’t have to directly confront them. Then, it’s the user’s choice to uncover the DM followed by his/her decision to accept, reject or report the account. It will also consider the misspelling of hidden words.
Blocking people permanently

The second update keeps track of all the people who function with multiple accounts to spread hateful content. It gives users the dual feature to block an account and also block any accounts they will make in the future with the same intent.
Instagram has promised to launch these features in the coming days initially, in a few countries, and then globally.
