Before getting into the ‘how,’ let us first focus a little on the ‘what.’ Bixby serves as a rival to other major company’s voice assistant features such as Apple’s Siri, Google’s Assistant, or Amazon’s Alexa.
Similar to its rivals, Bixby performs various tasks to help its users experience better, efficient and advanced interference. It helps with various tasks such as making phone calls, sending text messages, setting reminders and alarms, performing calculations, translating languages, answering small queries, and so on.

How to disable Bixby?
The models that support Bixby usually have a button placed close to the volume buttons, which can be confusing to many users. In some models, the Bixby button even replaces the power button, which can be stated as one of the main reasons why most users want to disable the Bixby function.

- Change the function of the Bixby button
- Disable voice activation
- Disabling the option of Bixby Home Screen by swiping left from the home screen (now known as Samsung Daily)
As of currently, only models such as Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 10 phones allow complete disabling of Bixby. Let us get into details with how to disable Bixby on your Samsung phones.
Disabling in Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 10 phones
To disable the Bixby feature in Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 10 phones, you may follow the step-by-step procedure mentioned below:
- You first need to go to settings and then select the ‘Advanced Features’ option
- Once there, turn the ‘Bixby Routines’ off
- Next, tap on the Side Key
- Next, toggle off the ‘Double Tap’ option. You may change it to something else, as long as it is not the ‘Open Bixby’ option
- Next, you will need to change the function of the power button, by changing the ‘Press and Hold’ option to the ‘Power off Menu’ option
- Next, go back to setting and press on the search option, or the magnifying glass that is located on the top right corner
- Search Bixby. From the options given, select ‘App Info, Bixby Voice’
- Next, you would need to go to Bixby Voice settings. For that, you would need to tap on the Setting gear that you will find in the top right corner
- There, you will find the ‘Automatic Listening’ option. Switch it to ‘Never’
- Next, tap on the ‘Voice Wake-Up’ option and turn off the ‘Wake With Hi, Bixby’ option
- Next, turn off the ‘Use While Phone Locked’ option as well
- Next, turn off the ‘Bixby Dictation’ option
- In the next step, you would be required to tap on the ‘Bixby Key’ and make sure it is changed to the ‘Double Press to Open Bixby’ option
- Then, you would need to turn off the ‘Marketing Notification’ option
- From there, you would need to go back to your home screen where you need to press and hold till the widget-configuration mode is available
- From there, swipe left to switch off the ‘Samsung Daily’ option
Disabling in Galaxy S8/S9/S10 (Android 9 or 10)
If you own one of the earlier models, the Bixby option cannot be completely disabled. However, you can change the configurations so that the Bixby feature will only get activated when you double press the button. To do that, follow the procedures mentioned below:
- The first step would be to go to your Settings option
- Once within Settings, tap on the search option, or the magnifying glass present in the top right corner of the screen
- Search Bixby and tap on the option that says ‘App Info, Bixby Voice’
- After selecting the option, you will find a settings gear in the top right corner. You will have opened the settings for Bixby Voice
- Within the settings, you will find the ‘Automatic Listening’ option. Change it to ‘Never’
- The next setting that needs to be changed is the ‘Voice Wake-Up’ option. There, switch off the ‘Wake With Hi, Bixby’ option
- Next up, turn off the ‘Use While Phone Locked’ option
- Up next, turn off the ‘Bixby Dictation’ option
- Next, you need to select the ‘Bixby Key’ option and make sure you change it to the ‘Double Press to Open Bixby’ option
- Then, turn off the ‘Marketing Notification’ option
- Return to the home screen and press and hold your screen. Once the widget-configuration mode appears, swipe left
- There, toggle off the ‘Bixby Home’ or the ‘Samsung Daily’ (for newer versions) option
With that, you would have successfully disabled Bixby on your Samsung phones. Once you are disabling the Bixby feature, there is a high chance that you will be switching to Google Assistant.
